What to expect from your first mobile detail

Mobile detailing is still new to a lot of people. The idea of a crew showing up at your driveway with everything needed to clean a car inside and out raises good questions. Do I need a hose? Where do they plug in? What about my HOA? Here is a step by step look at how a typical visit with Mobile Shine works, so there are no surprises.

Before the visit

After you book online or by phone, you get a confirmation text and email with your arrival window, package, vehicle size and price. The evening before, we check the weather radar. If heavy rain is forecast, we text you options to move the appointment for free. On the day, you get a text when your detailer is about 30 minutes away, with their name and photo.

To prepare, just remove valuables and anything you do not want moved, like documents in the glovebox or child seats you prefer to keep installed. Leave everything else. Clearing out clutter is part of the job.

Setting up

Our vans carry 100 gallons of filtered water, a quiet inverter generator, pressure washer, extractor, steamer and all chemicals and towels. We need a parking spot with about three feet of clearance on each side of the car. A driveway, curbside spot, office garage or apartment garage all work.

For exterior work, we lay down a runoff mat that captures most of the wash water, and we use biodegradable, pH-neutral soaps that are safe for lawns and landscaping. In garages, we switch to a rinseless method that leaves no water on the floor.

The walkaround

Before starting, your detailer walks around the car with you. We point out existing scratches, chips, stains or trim damage and take photos. This is also the moment to mention anything you want extra attention on, like a coffee stain, pet hair in the cargo area or a sticky cup holder. If something needs an add-on, you get the price before we begin.

During the detail

Most customers go back inside, work or run errands. You do not need to supervise. A Full Shine takes four to five hours on a sedan and up to six hours on a large SUV. We work interior first, top to bottom, then the exterior wash, decontamination and protection. The generator runs at about the volume of a normal conversation.

Finishing up and paying

When the car is done, we do a final walkaround together, ideally in good light. If anything is not right, we fix it on the spot. You pay only after you have approved the work, by card, Apple Pay or Zelle. You receive a receipt with before and after photos, and a reminder of our 48-hour re-do guarantee.

Many first-time customers move to a maintenance plan after their first detail, because keeping a car clean every two or four weeks is far easier than a big reset twice a year. There is no pressure either way. Ready to try it? Booking takes about two minutes.
